UNFEAR – CHRONICLES OF A BROKEN MIND (Independent)

Review by Nathan McLeod: In this next presentation & CD review I present to the masses a melodic death metal band hailing from “Buenos Aires, Argentina”, called “UnFear”. They are a seven piece band & have been quite busy since their incarnation of “March 2016”. And I say busy because in less than a year & a half in existence, “UnFear” have already have three official releases. Two full-lengths & an EP, with “Chronicles Of A Broken Mind” being their latest release. Quite impressive to say the least!

‘UnFear” take you on a journey with “Chronicles Of A Broken Mind” which is a concept album that was conceived by guitarist “Juan Bach” & one of two vocalist/front ladies, “Julia Sergent”. Most of what is heard & over an hours worth of material is of the melodic death metal genre. There are some bits & pieces here & there scattered thru out “Chronicles Of A Broken Mind” that is some progressive metal & metalcore. Which all mixes quite nicely.

“Chronicles Of A Broken Mind” is a brilliantly written CD. Extremely talented musicians who range in ages from 24-35. The alternating vocals of frontladies “Julia Sergent” & “Julieta Ciminelli” appear to be a much more appropriate match with one another vocally than that of “Julia Sergent” & “Sol Spaika”, who was another frontlady in “UnFear”. You can listen to the differences yourselves with the Internal Drama (Official Music Video) – https://youtu.be/LiBOiDk-byE that has “Sol Spaika” still in the “UnFear” line-up & then listen to the Forgotten Rhymes (Official Lyric Video) – https://youtu.be/vdlYGYVqfS8 which has “Julieta Ciminelli” back in the “UnFear” line-up. I prefer the “Julia/Julieta” tandem vocal line-up.

With ”Chronicles Of A Broken Mind” be prepared to spend an hour & ten minutes worth of material, which I know may not be the easiest for a lotta people to do. I will say this at least with the amount of material “UnFear” has here they’ve managed to for the most part keep everything quite interesting & the listener not bored. There are some instances where you may get a little lost within the music. But not a lot. Now, if you are the type that cannot sit down & listen straight thru to split it in two sittings. It’s well worth it as these ladies & gentle men do deliver the goods.

As a whole & a band, musically-speaking, “UnFear” appear to be extremely tight & a gifted lot of musicians. Not often you can get a group of seven people in the same room with the same kinda mindset & release a kick-ass CD! I can imagine this would require a lotta patience as well understanding of one another as well a really time-consuming feat. Hats off to all of you.

With the production end of “Chronicles Of A Broken Mind”, it’s a very well done job as it is though a typical production of a melodic death metal band. Not saying this is bad though.

If people are the fan of “The Agonist”, “In Flames”, “Arch Enemy” but with a lot more keyboards present with a dual vocalist approach, then “UnFear” has all the makings right here on “Chronicles Of A Broken Mind” which can be heard in it’s entirety right here on YouTube: https://youtu.be/SpgyY0k15ug … Excellent work!

My rating: 94/100 (Surpasses the style of music, must be heard/ordered by every Metal fan)
